I love the men’s game, of course, but as the men’s game gets more and more influenced by big commercial interests and individual players vying for multi-million dollar NBA contracts, there’s just something about the women’s game that’s “pure”.

Coaches can deploy good, fundamental strategy, so you see games of good, old-school basketball without a lot of showboating. You have young women who are just playing for the love of the game, who for the most part will go on to regular careers after their playing days.

And of course, I may be influenced by the fact that I’m a Rutgers Scarlet Knight, and that our Women’s team is the pride and joy of all of New Jersey.

Being a lifelong Giants football fan, I felt compelled to find an excuse to blog about the stunning 17-14 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday.

This post was originally written in 2008, of course. At the time, they sold a pink Giants jersey, which went out of stock.
