The Pink Ribbon Shop at Zazzle is on Zazzle’s prestigious Community Giving program. It contains a huge amount of products ranging from postage stamps to T-Shirts to stationery, mugs, shoes, and even pet clothing, all displaying the pink ribbon design.

There are other vendors on Zazzle that sell pink ribbon items, but be careful of those, as many of them do not donate a portion of proceeds to help breast cancer victims. The Pink Ribbon shop does, since it’s run by Zazzle themselves. In fact, 20% of all sales will benefit breast cancer awareness causes.

This is one of those ideas that when you hear it, you’ll think is either the cleverest idea you’ve ever heard, the strangest, or both!

Sealed with a Kiss offers postage stamps with a difference. Through Zazzle.Com, you can add your own lip print to a stamp (they provide you instructions), and they’ll turn it into postage you can use on any first class letter with the post office.

A portion of proceeds from this great idea will go to the Humane Society of the United States.

“Feral Cats” sounds like an exotic breed of cat, but in actuality, it refers to regular house cats who have become lost (or worse, abandoned by their owners) and are forced to revert to their instincts of the wild. It’s esimated that there are about 60 million feral cats in the United States.

The Feral Cat Caretakers Coalition was founded by Dona Cosgrove Baker. She saw the suffering of feral cats scattered over a large industrial area in Los Angeles. In thanks for her compassion, she endured abuse and scorn from the community.

She formed this organization to help others who provide care for feral cats, estimated to be about 17 million people. Because feral cats are in many cases unable to be brought back into a home enviornment, the approved humane treatment is called “TNR”, trap, neuter, release. Feral cats are trapped humanely, neutered or spayed, and then released back into their environment. It is a difficult and in many times thankless job, but one that helps some of the most helpless creatures around.

Buying a T-Shirt will help support this organization, but more importantly, read more about their mission, donate directly to them, or even volunteer to become a caretaker yourself.

I had the pleasure last week of learning about the organization Echoing Green. They’re a non-profit group that supports the concept of social entrepreneurship. If you don’t know what social entrepreneurship is, just think in the business world about what venture capitalists do. VCs try to find entrepreneurs with great business ideas. They’ll provide seed funding so the entrepreneurs can grow their business.

Echoing Green does the same sort of thing, but as a non-profit organization themselves, they focus on finding people with great ideas for making the world a better place and naming them “fellow” to receive funding. So far, they’ve helped organizations like Teach For America, City Year, Genocide Intervention Network, and International Bridges to Justice get off the ground, among many others. All of these organizations truly make the world a better place for all of us.

Obviously, a great idea like this needs funding themselves. They get some corporate funding, but need contributions from individuals too. When you buy it, the proceeds will go to help Echoing Green, but more importantly, wearing it will help spread the word about this great organization.
